The Most Famous Diplomatic Gift in History Is Now a Popcorn Bucket
Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is in theaters today, and to mark it, Regal is selling popcorn out of a Trojan Horse. The bucket is a little wooden horse, popcorn tucked into its belly where the soldiers once hid.
So the next time you reach in for a handful, consider what you are holding: a replica of the most famous diplomatic gift in history.
According to the legend, the Greeks left a giant wooden horse outside the walls of Troy and sailed away, as if giving up. The Trojans took it in as a trophy. Soldiers were hidden inside, and once the city slept, they climbed out and opened the gates. Troy did not survive the night.
Thousands of years later, we are still telling the story. And now, apparently, eating popcorn out of it.
Enjoy the show.
